Ice Dam and Snow Roof Removal

Milwaukee Ice Dam & Snow Roof Removal

A major roof problem that Milwaukee roofs face is the build-up of heavy snow and the development of ice dams. The excess weight of snow can damage roofs, gutters, and down spouts. Excess snow can also block the air flow of the home's ventilation systems. Ice dams form when heavy snow melts during the day, flows under the shingles, and refreezes at night. After several melting-freezing cycles, water can enter the attic and damage insulation, ceilings, walls, and even the building itself. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to prevent damage caused by heavy snow and ice dams. By keeping the snow load to a minimum, you will reduce the chances of an ice dam forming. In addition, you will prevent damage to the roof due to the excess weight.

Having Problem with Ice Damming on your Milwaukee Roof

Milwaukee and Waukesha roofing contractor. Providing asphalt roofing, metal roofing, polymer roofing, cedar roofing, flat roofing, rubber roofing, tpo rooifng, skylights installation and ice dam removals. Ice damming is a big problem on Milwaukee roofs and many Milwaukee roofing contractor do not provide you with the education you need to help rid yourself of ice damming. There are three major things that you can do to help prevent and aid ice damming.

Insulation - When you don't have the proper insulation in your attic space heat escape from your home and enters the attic space. This causes the snow on your roof to melt. The melting snow from your roof runs down to your eves (where your gutter are located) and refreezes. This process happens over and over again until you have an ice dam.

Ventilation - There are two important areas for your homes roof ventilation which are the intake vents and exhaust vents. Intake vents bring the air into your attic space and exhaust vents removes it. This process helps by keeping your attic space the same temperature as the outside air. Many Milwaukee roofing contractors do not address this area. When you can maintain the same temperature in your attic space as the outside air you prevent the melt freeze cycle as mentioned above.

Water & Ice Barriers - This is used to help prevent the ice damming from getting into your home. This is not to prevent ice dams but to help aid them from water penetrating your home. Most Milwaukee roofing contractors install 3 feet of water and ice shield on eves and on valleys. This in most cases is not enough depending on your home. In a lot of homes depending on the size of your eves you may need 6 feet and in some cases like with low pitched roofs water and ice shield needs to be installed on the complete section.

Roofing Heating Cable - This cable are used to help fight ice damming but have a very low life cycle. A lot of Milwaukee Roofing Contractors stand by installing these as a permanent fix for ice dam while in reality is just a temporary fix lasting 3-5 years.
